Route 66 Petrified Forest to Flagstaff

Route 66 Adventure

Day 4 Part 3

Petrified Forest to Flagstaff

Much to soon Dennis and I had to leave the Petrified Forest. Altho we had not seen it all we had to move on. We headed West in search of dinosaurs.

All along Route 66 from Chicago on we have had Giant Alerts. The best book we have found on Route 66 is EZ66 Guide for Travelers by Jerry McClanahan. Jerry alerts us to Giants all along the road. Hence we were headed for Giant Dinosaurs. We spotted the 1st ones at the Rainbow Rock Shop in Holbrook.

More dinosaurs were found at the Indian Rock Shop.

We drove to Jo & Aggie's cafe which is supposed to have awesome food but it was closed since this was Sunday. Took a few pictures then headed out to find food.

Another dinosaur we found driving around Holbrook.

Lots of places were closed since it was Sunday which is awesome. Dennis and I decided when we started our vacation that we were going to bypass fast food restaurants. We finally found Mr Maesta's which was very tasty.

Found another Rock Shop with an interesting store front.

One thing I love is murals on walls.  I have taken pictures all along Route 66 of different murals.  Here is one we came across in Holbrook.

Next, we spotted the Wigwam Motel, still in Holbrook, which has been owned by the same family since 1950 when the concrete Teepees were built.

Continuing West we came to Jackrabbit, AZ.

Dennis had to ride the Jackrabbit. I secretly wished I could have too.

On to Winslow, AZ. Standing on the corner of Winslow Arizona. The Eagles made the corner famous or the other way around – with the song Taking it Easy. Found this on the internet and thought it went well with my blog, nix the blond.

We stopped for the night in Flagstaff, AZ. Flagstaff is one of my favorite cities. Found a wonderful restaurant The Crown Railroad Cafe. The food was awesome. I highly recommend it.

The cafe was next door to another Giant Alert – The Big Neon Guitar. The Guitar shines outside the Museum Club with was at one time the Largest Log Cabin in the
southwest.

All for now.
Until next time have an awesome day,
Charyl
