Day 3 Part 1

Los Lunas, NM to Gallup, NM

Dennis and I were up and eager to meet Jeff for breakfast. IHOP was brand new to Los Lunas so we decided to eat there. Staff was a bit rigid but the food was good.

Jeff didn't have to be to work until nighttime so he decided to take us up Sandia Mountain. What a treat. 1st we stopped at Tinkertown and visited the museum there. It was definitely a fun place to visit. It's a place all my grandkids would love. I highly recommend visiting it.

A bit about Tinkertown: It took Ross Ward over 40 years to carve, collect, and lovingly construct what is now Tinkertown Museum. His miniature wood-carved figures were first part of a traveling exhibit, driven to county fairs and carnivals in the 1960s and ’70s. Today over 50,000 glass bottles form rambling walls that surround a 22-room museum. Wagon wheels, old fashioned store fronts, and wacky western memorabilia make Tinkertown’s exterior as much as a museum as the wonders within.

Inside, the magic of animation takes over. The inhabitants of a raucous little western town animate to hilarious life. Under the big top, diminutive circus performers challenge tigers and defy gravity while the Fat Lady fans herself and a polar bear teeters and totters.

Sandia Mountain

After Tinkertown we headed up to the top of Sandia Mountain. Awww the view. It was awesome to look down on Albuquerque. It is a breath taking view to say the least. I was so glad Jeff took us up there.

Back down the mountain for lunch at 66 Diner in Albuquerque.

66 Diner

We had read about the 66 Diner in almost all the Route 66 books we have. HAD to stop there, and so glad we did. Food was yummy and décor was fun!

Heading West

Jeff had to head home to get some sleep before he needed to go to work that evening, so Dennis and I headed west. Destination Gallup, NM for the night. Along the way we had more beautiful scenery plus the Continental Divide.

All for now folks,
