Route 66 Rancho Cucamonga to Santa Monica

Route 66 Vacation Nears an End

Day 7 Morning

Rancho Cucamonga to Santa Monica

After our cool experience at McDonalds in Rancho Cucamonga we again head West. The days of beautiful mountains and scenery are over. The rest of our trip in city streets and old buildings. Don't get me wrong, the buildings are cool but I have been spoiled by the God's beauty coming across the mountains. Plus the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. If you haven't read those posts be sure to go back and see them.

The Magic Lamp Inn, a 1957 restaurant with ornate "Arabian Nights" decor.  On Foothill Blvd in Rancho Cucamonga.

The Golden Spur Restaurant plus the Legends Blast from the Past Restaurant are both in Glendora, CA, along with the horse back rider to the right.

The Hat Restaurant with the World Famous Pastrami located at 611 W. Route 66, Glendora, CA

Azusa Foothill Drive-In Theatre, located on historic Route 66, opened on December 18, 1961 and had it's final showing on December 28, 2001.

In Monrovia, in front of Dale's Garage, vintage gas pumps are  in classic style. Scenes from a movie about the Lindberg kidnapping were filmed here.

In East Pasadena next to Arcadia we spotted the Hi-way Host Motel.

Saga Motor Hotel, also in Pasadena in another well preserved 1950's motel.

The Formosa Café located at 7156 Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, California, evolved from a small restaurant, the Red Post, housed in a former trolley car, Jimmy Bernstein, a prizefighter opened the restaurant in 1927.

Since opening in 1957, the legendary Troubadour club in West Hollywood has helped launch some of contemporary music's most talented performers.  Even Elton John performed here during his early years.

Next comes Beverly Hills and crossing Rodeo Drive.

We venture on West.  Check out the palm trees.  We sure don't see those in Oklahoma.  Makes me miss living in Southern California.

Just more city streets until we hit the end in Santa Monica.

I was planning on putting all the pictures from the Santa Monica Pier on this blog, but I have decided to save them all for a blog of their own.

So 'til next time,
Have an awesome day,
Charyl
